Intrinsic Deformation Analysis of Central Alborz Using Geodetic Satellite Observations

Damavand volcano with a height of over 5670 meters is a unique phenomenon that is based on the Central Alborz. Accordance with the international division of volcanology, volcanoes, with less than 10,000 years old "potentially active volcano eruption risk" is considered. Thus, Damavand is an active volcano. In this study due to the possible eruption and using the intrinsic geometry, the geodynamic situation in Central Alborz is discussed. It uses the GPS data of the Geodynamic Network of Iran in 2006 and 2007. The values of dilatation and maximum shear and changes of mean and Gaussian curvatures of this area were computed. Dilatation and maximum shear values of the order of 10 3 are obtained. Maximum of the Gaussian and mean curvature were 2.6 × 10-22 and 5.3 × 10-11, respectively that results indicate that subsidence in the central Alborz. InSAR observations of the region confirm the results.
